Synopsis
Selected for the main competition at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival and having contributed to numerous works by acclaimed directors such as Makoto Shinkai and Katabuch Sunao —Yoshitoshi Shinomiya makes his dazzling debut with his first feature-length animated film!
Historic fireworks shop “Tategami Fireworks” faces forced relocation due to urban redevelopment. For four years, second son Keitaro Tategami (voiced by Riku Hagiwara) has kept the shop running alone, determined to fulfil his missing father’s dream by completing the legendary firework “Shuhari“. At summer’s end, Keitaro’s childhood friend Kaoru Shikamori (voiced by Kotono Furukawa) returns from Tokyo. As Keitaro’s older brother Chitaro arrives to announce the deadline of the relocation, three friends separated for years reunite and resolve to carry out a breathtaking plan in the time left.
The illusory firework, bearing the hopes of everyone together with the precious blue pigment "Hana Rokusho" that conceals the crucial secret, will lead them toward entirely new futures of their own. When the magnificent fireworks illuminate the night sky with a new dawn, what tomorrow awaits Keitarō and the others?
